Because clinical practice guidelines are based on empirical evidence from clinical studies, they are often the standard of practice. However, guidelines do sometimes change, and it is important for you to consider why this happens and why a particular guideline may no longer be the standard. In this Discussion, you examine clinical practice guidelines and the extent to which they address determinants of health. To prepare: ? Review this week?s media presentation, as well as Chapters 2 and 3 from the Green and Tones text. ? Select a current clinical practice guideline of interest to you. ? Consider the origins of this guideline, including the initial study that contributed to the development of the guideline. ? Reflect on whether or not this guideline is still the standard of practice.
