Your job is to educate the class on your chosen equipment. You should answer the
following question: If your fellow students were to be given an assignment to
procure and install this equipment, what would they need to know?
Note: Please read the appropriate section of the text pertaining to your assigned
equipment. This project involves equipment used in an industrial business setting
only, not equipment for home use.
PART I. Written Report
The written report must include the following.

Table of contents with page numbers. (It must be formatted as follows)

Type the title of each section at the beginning of each of the sections as follows.
Section 1. Equipment Description.
A detailed description of the equipment:
? what does it look like? Describe the equipment in words.
? what is its function
? what are the various component parts and how do they function
? how is it operated
? what types of companies might use this equipment?
? is it normally used as standalone equipment or as part of a larger system
? how does this equipment compare with alternative types of equipment used to
perform the same function?
? Any other items that you want to discuss.
? Pictures of the equipment
Section 2. Equipment Suppliers.
What companies manufacture this equipment? Give the full name and address or website
address of the company (Identify at least two companies – there will usually be several
manufacturers for each type of equipment)
Include all of the following: company name, address, phone number, website address,
etc.
Section 3. Safety Requirements.
What safety issues are there that operators and maintainers need to be aware of? What
safety features are designed into the equipment?
Section 4. Ergonomic Factors.
What are the ergonomic considerations? What are the ergonomic concerns, reaches, etc?
What ergonomic features are included in the design? Do you see any other ergonomic
factors?
Section 5. Equipment Cost.
Develop a detailed cost estimate for a typical system.
Examples:
? Cost per foot x number of feet
? Cost per aisle
? $5,520 for a 20 HP unit; $12,200 for a 50 HP unit
Document the source of the cost (Website address, catalog page cut, name and phone
number of vendor that you talked to, etc.). The TranSystems “Rules of Thumb” online
resource may have costs for your equipment.
Section 6. References.
List at least three references, not including our text – as outlined below.
See “Citing Equipment, References and Brochures” on Isidore for examples of the format
for how the references must be cited.
? One of the references must be a copy of a current (2014 or later) article from a
magazine or journal dealing with specific applications of the equipment. For
example, the article may cover a case study of a company that has installed this
equipment. Discuss the article in your reports.
? The second reference must be an equipment brochure obtained from a
manufacturer for your specific equipment. The brochure and other information
must be obtained from a vendor of the equipment.
? The third reference may be a book or text (but not the course text), journal
article, brochure, Internet article, etc.
? Advertisements for the equipment and newspaper articles are not acceptable as
references.
Section 7. Appendix.
Hard copies of the references must be attached.
Section 8.
You may include any other information that you consider appropriate to help explain
your equipment to the class.
